Taking a Stand

Beautiful Souls:  Saying No, Breaking Rules, and Heeding the Voice of Conscience in Dark TimesWhy are some people able to summon the will to risk  their jobs, their careers, their homes, respect of their peers, or potentially even their lives to correct a wrong?  These are ordinary people who follow their conscience in tough situations while other presumably equally moral people turn a blind eye.

In a new addition to our church library collection, “Beautiful Souls:  Saying No, Breaking Rules, and Heeding the Voice of Conscience in Dark Times,” author Eyal Press explores this question.

In one example, a financial industry whistleblower loses her career over trying to bring attention to what she learns is a fraudulent product.  Many of her colleagues who were privy to the same information continue to convince others to invest.  What would you have done?

The purchase of this book was made possible by the generosity of everyone who participated in our two used book sales this year.  First Church Library thanks everyone who donated items for the sale and who gave generously for their purchases.
