The Music Interns, Joanna Meline and Jonathan Green, are both students in the music program at Portland State University. We work with Dr. Ethan Sperry to get the vocalists that are best suited to the needs of our music program here at FUMC. The interns are paid a monthly stipend to sing in our Chancel Choir. This is possible because we have use of the interest money generated from the Ed Allen/Sally Bolliger Music Intern Endowment Fund. The interns will not only enhance the section in which they are singing, they will grow in their musical ability to sing in a church choir. We are fortunate to have them with us.
Jonathan is a student at PSU working towards a Bachelor degree in Vocal Performance.
Over the past 6 years he has performed with many groups including the Royal Blues, Hooked on Harmonics, The Green Note and the PSU Chamber Choir.
Additionally, Jonathan has competed in classical solo voice competitions winning finalist distinctions in the NATS undergraduate division and competing at the national level of the classical singer convention.
Going into his Junior year at PSU he hopes to one day sing as part of a professional acappella group.
Jonathan has lived in NE Portland for the last 13 years and enjoys backpacking, playing basketball, and arranging music in his free time.
Music Intern Joanna Meline has been studying choral music and classical vocal performance for over 10 years.
She began her education in 2002 at the Santa Rosa Junior College, and is now at Portland State University pursuing a degree in Vocal Performance.
During her time at PSU she has been in the chorus of several opera productions, and understudy to the character of Mere Marie, in the 2012 production of Dialogues des Carmelites.
She has had the privilege to work under the direction of Ethan Sperry in the PSU Chamber Choir, and currently studies voice with Sue Hinshaw.
