Progressive Political Action in the 21st Century
On Saturday, February 28th, Church and Society, Planet Church, Reconciling Ministries and United Methodist Women join together to present a workshop on how to become a successful activist.
The doors open at 8:30am, and the workshop will begin at 9:00 in the Fireside Room, with an “Activism 101” presentation from a selection of effective lobbyists. Participants in the panel include Nav Dayanand, Director of Federal Government Relations for The Nature Conservancy; Kathy Formella, Political and Outreach Organizer for Basic Rights Oregon; and Calli Daly, Western Regional Manager of State Government Affairs for Georgia Pacific, LLC.
Participants will be asked, based on their interest, to join one of three groups formed around the workshop’s focus initiatives: Poverty, Education and the Environment; and following the Activism presentation, the individual groups will get together to discuss legislation, projects and strategies for advancing these programs.
Following the break-out sessions, the groups will reconvene to share their ideas and conclude the workshop.
Coffee and snacks will be provided, and “Reclaiming the Great Society” is free and open to the public.
