Planet Church Lifts Up “Caretakers of God’s Creation” at Alternative Christmas

“Caretakers of God’s Creation,” is a grassroots United Methodist group that believes “that a relationship with God’s creation and a ministry of caring for and healing the earth are integral to what it means to be a Christian.” Led by Rev. Pat Watkins, “Caretakers” is now part of the General Board of Global Missions (Advance #3021583).

Among their goals are: to connect with the Council of Bishops around the bishops’ statement, “God’s Renewed Creation;” to expand creation care ministries into as many Annual Conferences as possible; to create a Global Creation Care Ministry Team, with representation from each of the UMC’s six regions; to create an environmental policy statement and an environmental action plan for Global Missions…and more. They have been a supporter of the Pacific Northwest Conference’s Fossil Free UMC, and this month, “Caretakers’” representatives went to the Paris Climate Summit. Some of their thoughts and reports from the Summit can be found on their Facebook page.

Planet Church is looking forward to joining with “Caretakers of God’s Creation” to host a gathering of “Green Teams” and Eco-Justice ministers at First Church during General Conference, and we are delighted to support them during FUMC’s Alternative Christmas.
