As your pastor, it is my formal recommendation not to fall ill with Covid and the flu back-to-back (ask me how I know)! This year has had a bumpy start. Thankfully, one of the skills we’ve collectively honed during the pandemic is how to keep going no matter how things started or the bumps along the way.

My family has been talking about the hymn, In the Bleak Midwinter. It’s meant to be a Christmas hymn, but we find it much more appropriate for the weather we get in January and February:
The Flower Committee is taking orders for Poinsettias and Azaleas to decorate the Chancel for Christmas Eve.
Portland FUMC and Youngset Preschool are teaming up together to provide Christmas gifts for families with Path Home (formerly Portland Homeless Family Solutions).

So many great conversations are happening every week at FUMC as we pursue our mission through housing. We are learning, questioning, and growing together as we ask: “How can we ensure our neighbors have safe, reliable housing?”
Multiple FUMC friends have notified staff that they have received emails claiming to be from FUMC congregants, or church staff, requesting the recipient to purchase gift cards, or provide personal information. These are are phishing scams. Please do not comply with these requests.
