It’s a Girl! Please join us for a baby shower celebration and potluck honoring Chelsea Paxton and Rev Jeremy Smith on September 16 after worship in room 202. Please bring your family and an entrée, salad, or side to share. As this is a large celebration, including many families, gifts will be opened later. Baby’s first piggy bank will also be available for those wishing to honor the occasion with a monetary gift.

Welcome Home Sunday!
9:30 am- All youth are invited to meet in Collins Hall for coffee and treats! We will then walk down to the youth room and play a few games and talk about the youth Sunday school schedule for the Fall. If time permits, we will break in to High School and Middle School classes and do a lesson overview.

12:15 All Church meeting to approve new Strategic Plan- Confirmed youth are invited to come and vote for the new plan. This new plan for the next 3 years will be concentrating some focus on YOUTH!

Meet in Collins Hall after church on the last Sunday of the month to depart for a local restaurant or another fun activity. This year members of the Youth Ministry Committee are planning the destinations for lunch, so bring $10 and your TriMet pass!
All Church Retreat: September 28-30
Come one, Come all!
This fall, join the congregation at Camp Magruder for a soul tending, sprit lifting weekend together in community.
Camp Magruder is a beautiful spot on the coast, a bit south of Rockaway Beach, that has direct ocean access and a fresh water lake on the other side of camp. There will be plenty of room for playing, creating, singing, hiking, watching, listening, and relaxing.
This is an intergenerational experience not to be missed. If you would like to come but think you are too old, come anyway. If you want to come but you don’t know anybody, you will meet people there. If you want to come but don’t like to sing, that’s okay too! We are seeking a community of support and fun and you have what it takes to join us.

Harvest Celebration Party for Kids
Sunday, October 21
12 pm in Collins Hall
Youth will host games, activities, and crafts for kids ages 2- 11. We will be planning for cookie decorating, costume contest, games and perhaps our fortune teller, Madame Zaza. Wear a non-scary costume and come to help!
Chili Cook Off: December 2
We are trying a new style of Chili lunch this year. The youth are hoping that we can form 3 teams to cook chili, and then the congregation will vote about which chili was the best.

This September and October, Graceful Aging will be a four week workshop series at Portland’s First United Methodist Church designed to provide solutions to the issues of pro-actively managing the aging process and providing support for loved ones who face those issues. Ms. Jeanette Chardon, MSW and owner of Portland based, Elder Care Consultants will lead each workshop in the series.
Each workshop will take place on a Saturday morning from 10 to 11:30AM. Dates are September 15th and 29th, and October 13th and 27th.
Attendees will include: Seniors who want to pro-actively manage their OWN future, seniors in the midst of major live changes, and adult children of aging parents.
A wide range of topics will be discussed including residental transition choices, care-giving options, advance directives, illness and memory loss, estate planning, and grief issues.
This program is free to all and is not limited to just First Church members. Bring friends or family for this series of important discussions.

Kindergarten Parents: First Communion
For Kindergarteners at FUMC, October’s first Sunday (7), will be the first time that they experience Communion with their Sunday school class. On Sunday, September 16, Pastor Jeremy Smith will be coming in to class to talk to these kids about what it means to take communion, and how we celebrate here at FUMC. He will also talk with the First Grade class with a little refresher on the subject.

Each grade level has 3 teaching teams that rotate every month. Volunteer teachers are in the Sunday school room 1 out of 3 months! This is a great way to get to know other parents and kids.
