decorationSenior Adult Ministries with Agnes Zach

Senior adults play an important part in the life of the First Church community. While we have specific travel opportunities, classes, and groups to engage the senior members of our congregation, for the most part seniors participate in the opportunities that are a part of the overall First Church life. In addition, please feel free to participate in the following senior-focused programs.

Local Travel Adventures

A wide variety of local trips are planned by the First Church Travel Committee during the course of the year. Fees vary according to the destinations and activities involved. Local trips often include opportunities for lunch or dinner together. Here are a few examples of the types of local trips taken:

For current local travel opportunities check our Program Guide.

Opportunities for National & International Travel

First Church seniors have taken some incredible trips together both nationally and internationally. These trips are coordinated with a travel agency. Fees vary according to destinations and activities. Recent trips have included:

These trips require deposits and advance reservations. For more information contact Cheryl Luce.

The Shovel and Rake Gang

The Shovel and Rake Gang is a group of people (primarily seniors) who assume responsibility for landscaping and caring for the building and grounds of our entire campus. This group has met weekly for many years to plant trees and flowers, to fertilize, water, mow, edge and to prepare the sanctuary for the following Sunday worship, all the while keeping the building in good repair. The group meets each Thursday from 8:00 am to noon, breaking at 10:00 am for cake and coffee. New members are always welcome.

55 Alive

55-Alive is a unique program for older drivers. This popular course is offered three times a year at First UMC. Each day the class runs from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
