Worship
Worship is at the center of the life of Portland's First Church. Each Sunday we come together ... from toddlers to seniors ... to lift our hearts in praise and find strength for the journey. Each week uplifting music is provided by the renowned organist, Jonas Nordwall and the Chancel Choir under the direction of Gary St. John. The lay leaders and the pastoral staff offer thoughtful prayers, an engaging children's time, and solid Biblical messages to challenge and inspire. The time is enhanced by special offerings by bell choirs, as well as children and youth choral groups.
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is offered monthly. Wedding services and the Sacrament of Holy Baptism (for infants, children, and adults) may be arranged with the pastors. Services of prayer and healing are regularly scheduled in our Chapel.
Special worship experiences provide an opportunity to emphasize important seasons and explore diverse styles of worship. These service are offered on Christmas Eve as well as services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and two Festival services on Easter morning.
We invite everyone to join us as we experience the presence, power and love of God through worship.
