Swampy & Sacred

Connecting with our Land and Neighborhood

The history of First Church is a long one, spanning almost 175 years and five different locations throughout the city of Portland. Since 1957, First Church has made its home here, at 1838 SW Jefferson Street in Goose Hollow. From our doors we can walk to coffee shops, restaurants, bars, apartment buildings, and up through the beautiful homes of the West Hills. The Max and TriMet Buses pass through regularly. We couldn’t ask for a better neighborhood. But who was here before us? Who stewarded this land in ages past? And how might the answers to these questions inform our ministry now?
