Update on the Landing

The PSU Landing at FUMC, a community sheltering students through housing insecurity, has been open for a year now. With a soft opening last winter and a solid opening this past fall, The Landing has touched the lives of 12 houseless students, 60 volunteers, and 8 developing staff so far. The Landing recently opened a study room for residents and hopes to reinstate the home-cooked meal program that was so popular with GHFS (COVID depending).

It’s been a labor of love getting the word out to those who need our services, as it takes determination and articulation presenting information to campus faculty and staff meetings, networking through student groups and making announcements in classes. We’ve met with several hundred PSU folks who then can help us spread the word and refer houseless students to The Landing. Our Advisory Board looks back at the history of creating the Goose Hollow Shelter for inspiration in our times of hard work (and sometimes frustration). We persevere, understand that all our efforts make a positive impact on the lives of every individual we touch.

Right now, we are looking for a few key volunteers who would like to be part of this new church program.

Right now, we are looking for a few key volunteers who would like to be part of this new church program. Please contact the church office at office@fumcpdx.org, or 503.228.3195 if you are interested. If not volunteering, we will certainly use your ongoing contributions to support the Landing annual budget of $120,000. Your support is deeply appreciated.
