Liz Temple, the Church Administrator, and supervisor of The Landing, reviews the past year of success and takes visitors on a virtual tour.
The work taking place at The Landing helps to address a few of these needs for students at Portland State University. The Landing provides food, as well as a safe, clean, and secure space for residents to relax, study, sleep, wash their clothes, eat and store their belongings – regardless of their identity, and free of charge. This affords residents the peace of mind necessary to reach their academic goals, compared to before, where the stress of maintaining safety, finding a dry space to sleep undisturbed, finding food, and worrying about their belongings getting lost or stolen were all obstacles to their ability to focus on their studies. Having all of these resources under one roof also reduces the amount of time required to travel from one resource to another. Furthermore, The Landing acts as more than just an emergency shelter, in the sense that residents don’t have to worry about being kicked back onto the streets after a short period of time. Residency periods can run through multiple terms.
