From One Conference to Another (to Another!)

A Word with the Pastor

I have the pleasure of participating in multiple Annual Conferences each year, with great thanks to my cross-conference appointment to serve as your pastor. Cross-conference appointments are not uncommon, especially as the United Methodist Church grows stronger in its connection and mutual support. Recent First Church clergy such as Rev. Andy, Rev. Jeremy, and Rev. Donna have also served in cross-conference appointments in the past several years.

While a cross-conference appointment can make for tricky participation in the structures and events of each conference, there is also great joy and benefit that comes from being meaningfully connected with each different body.

Fourth Sunday After Pentecost
8:30am & 10:30am

 

Join us for the Fourth Sunday after Pentecost. Rev. Lowell Greathouse will preach on Mark 4:26-34 (CEB) as we continue our “Summer Mixtape” series.
For this Sunday, you can preview our opening hymn, “How Can We Name a Love” (#111 in the United Methodist Hymnal). You can read about the song or read the lyrics while listening to a recording.

Don’t leave a mess for your loved ones. In this forum, we will talk about what you should have in place legally and financially so that you leave a clear legacy rather than a stressful mess for your loved ones to work through.
 Forum presenter: Sandy Montoya is a Financial Planner and Tax Preparer, a Certified Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church, and a member of the First Church Chancel Choir.

Kids's Camp

June 26-28 | 9am - 4pm
Just Like Me is Portland FUMC's Kids' Camp 2024! It's our annual 3-day jam-packed fun that you don't want to miss! Kids, ages 3 to incoming 6th grade (incoming 7th grade and older are invited to serve with us!). Friends, Family, and Neighbors are all welcome! All abilities welcome.

Come hang out at the zoo! This is a time for all families to join for a fun day with other families and the new Director of Children, Youth, and Families, Cassidy Smith, and other amazing staff and clergy! After worship, we'll gather in the Collins Courtyard and then go to the zoo together. At 1 p.m., all families should gather on the lawn by the elephants for lunch. Re-Retirement Celebration for Rev. Lowell

June 16 | 11:45am
Stay for an extra special coffee hour in Collins Hall to celebrate Rev. Lowell’s re-retirement. There will be an opportunity for cake eating, card signing, and well-wishing. Appreciation cards and gifts will be collected and can be written directly to Lowell.

Lift UP Food Donations

For June, Lift UP is asking for nut butters (peanut butter is very popular) and canned meats (tuna and chicken are popular). Donations can be dropped off on Sunday mornings or anytime during the week when the church office is open. They are also in need of empty egg cartons.
